Everybody at Mt. Fern talks about ASP. Especially as
it gets closer to Summer, getting ready for ASP is the buzz around
the church. ASP stands for the Appalachia Service Project. This
project begun by a Methodist minister to provide home repairs to
those in desperate situations in the Appalachian mountains has grown
into an incredible project that continues to provide home repair.
Each year, Mt Fern has sent young people and adults to participate
in this labor of love; and each year those who give of themselves
find themselves to be the ones who are richly blessed. For one week
of real labor -sometimes digging a ditch for a water line, sometimes
putting a roof on a house, sometimes adding on a room, or putting in
a bathroom -always making a difference in the lives of others, the
ASP team returns home dirty, tired and forever changed. The entire
church participates in this ministry with its prayers, support,
energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement.
